Notes
- One of the "Three Geniuses" in Tokyo that were artificially created with the task of observing and recording events throughout the game. Bertro is the guildmaster of the Warmongers. Designated as Plan B, Bertro was entrusted with the concept of "evolution through competition".
- The other two geniuses are the guildmaster of the Invaders ( ∀Isaac, designated Plan A) and the guildmaster of the Rule Makers (Curren, designated Plan C). A backup plan for the three was created if ever one of them deviated from their purpose or could no longer perform, designated Plan D or Duo.
- He, along with the other two geniuses, were each based on one of the "Big Three" English-language science fiction writers that dominated in the U.S. Bertro was specifically named after Robert A. Heinlein, an American sci-fi author, aeronautical engineer, and Naval officer.
- The wolf Bertro rides on is one of the two wolves that served Odin, Geri and Freki. Geri became Bertro's ride while Freki became Breke.
- Harsh Mistress is a reference to one of Robert Heinlein's books, The Moon is a Harsh Mistress.
- The Warmongers' use of Ranger could be a reference to one of Heinlein's books Starship Troopers, wherein there is a separate technologically advanced civilization of insectoid individuals.
- His CS subtitle comes from an expression that means cherishing something important yet being extremely violent with it. The expression itself is based on a story of a Chinese emperor drinking while writing poetry at a banquet, and he liked the moon so much that he took away all other lights.
